Morning Beauty

morning

morning

I start each day with noticing something beautiful. Some days it it human, some days it is animal and some days it is sticks, stones or seed pods. This morning it was the sun pushing through the basement window and the dance it enjoyed across the concrete floor.

Jake

The first time I photographed Jake he was six months old. I have had the privilege of watching him grow up into this person. He is smart, funny and quite handsome. I hope he knows a good dry cleaner.

New Project

film holders

film holders

The above holders contain the first four sheets of film for a new project I started today. I am exploring the idea of how personal artifacts/mementos satisfy the need for an individual to catalog their life experiences through the collection of objects.

Halma School K thru 12 - Photogravure

When I was in my early twenties I was introduced to a photograph of the Flatiron building by Edward Steichen. It was produced in the historical process of photogravure. I have always wanted to learn photogravure and this Spring I was fortunate enough to take a workshop at Highpoint Center For Printmaking with photographer/master printer Keith Taylor. Although I have much to learn, I am pleased with the results thus far.

Minnesota State Fair Fine Art Exhibit

Skane Town Hall - Hand Painted Silver Gelatin Photograph

Skane Town Hall - Hand Painted Silver Gelatin Photograph

I remember the making of this photograph quite well. It was the day after Christmas, the temperature was 18 below zero and the winds were at 30 miles per hour. I had to brace myself against the car to remain steady enough to make the exposure. I was willing to put up with the conditions because I really wanted this image. I am glad I bothered.

Thank you to the kind State Fair patron who purchased this photograph. I know it will have a good home.

Heavy Metal

The images for the "Heavy Metal" exhibit are now available to view online for those of us unable to travel to Astoria to view them in person. Enjoy.

Celebrating the fine art of the Silver Gelatin and Platinum Print.

"Nothing compares to the beauty and craftsmanship of the platinum and silver gelatin printing processes. Practitioners of the art of the platinum/palladium process do so for their love of the incredible tonal range and amazing archival stability. Those who print in the silver gelatin darkroom do so for the love of and the respect for the medium with it’s substance and archival quality. We wish to honor the photographers that perfect the art of these photographic printing methods that are over 100 years old. Thank you to all photographers who submitted images for this show, everyone of which we truely appreciate. This is a beautiful show, 56 images have been chosen for display on the walls, Congrats to the photographers who were selected!"

a thousand thoughts unsaid
a thousand thoughts unsaid

The exhibit "Heavy Metal" opens at the Lightbox Gallery in Astoria Washington on September 8th. The above image will be included in this exhibit. The call for work was unique in that all of the photographs had to be produced in either the Silver Gelatin or Platinum process. The request was also made that the work be printed by the photographer. It is extremely gratifying to me that there are still a number of photographers that remain dedicated to film and traditional darkroom practices. I am certain that this will be a beautiful show.
