Last night I finished the letterpress printing for my project. It feels great to have that part completed.

Today I'm working on the label for my box. I am printing on Gampi Silk tissue then mounting that to black etching paper. I am happy with the effect so far. Next week I will start attaching them to the clamshell boxes. Getting close...

Sometimes you open a fresh box of plates and find that this has happened. I trim them down to a smaller size anyway so there is no harm done. I had a lot of problems with my plate making this Summer which I seemed to have resolved - thank goodness! Onward...

For those that don't know, which until recently I was in the dark about, leading is spacing material used in Letterpress printing. Day by day I am becoming more comfortable using the Vandercook presses.

I normally ignore measurements under an eighth of an inch. They never seemed important enough to bother with. Making boxes has forced me to reckon with these tiny measurements - two sixteenths, five sixteenths, twelve sixteenths...  shhhhh, I'm counting.

There are plenty of ways to distract myself in the printshop. When I need a break, I poke around the various curiosities. This is cheesecloth used for Lithography, which I tried once, and then promptly ushered myself back to my side of the studio.

Really, really needed to do something unrelated to my MCBA project this weekend. I spent a day making monotypes. No expectations, just moving ink around in whatever way my hands saw fit. I also printed very large, at least for me. I feel ready now to carry on.
